Mayer WisotskyAlso by Mayer Wisotsky: The Woodcarver, 1981 FOR SEVENTY YEARS MAYER WISOTSKY HAS BEEN CHASING truth, understanding, and awareness while looking for the reasons for his existence. He has worked in every kind of job from factory worker to hospital exeutive, from teacher to counselor, from actor and director to writer and musician, from salesman to manager, from bricklayer to woodcarver, from entrepreneur to consultant, from paperboy to selling vacuums. He has joined philosophical groups, political groups, religious groups, the military and was the president of a college faculty union. His years of living have given him a huge amount of experience to authentically understand the world. Poetry has been his safety valve. It is the way he can express his understanding of reality in an emotional burst of creativity. These poetic flares started as he was emerging from an ending marriage (with two children) and trying to finish his Master's degree. Feeling lonely and unloved, he tried to express his feelings through poetry. He remarried a second time (two more children) and after 13 years got divorced again. At that point he began searching for who he was deep down, his essence. Poetry was the main expression of his search. On his 45th birthday, he needed the discipline of a determined man, and he decided to become a vegetarian. That decision helped him discover his lifelong philosophy. He wrote the poem "The Vegetarian" about the incident. For the next year, he scrupulously examined every aspect of his life, and he got his act together. He started his new life, found his soul-mate, married her, and for 42 years has been living, loving, and sparking out poetry to better understand his changing self and our changing world. This is his Truth.
