Mulkiyet karsiti yasli anarsist, hayatinin son yillarinda ironik bir durumda kaldi. Isvicre vatandasligina girmenin yollarini arayan Bakunin'e sunulan secenek, orada bir ev sahibi olmasiydi ve belki de en hazini, sahip olacagi bu ev nedeniyle, polisin, resmî tutanaklara "Michael Bakunin, rantiye" notunu dusmesiydi. 18 Mayis 1814'te Rusya'da dogan Michael Aleksandrovich Bakunin, 1 Temmuz 1876'da oldugunde ulkesinden cok uzaklardaydi ve cenazesinde yalnizca 30-40 kisi vardi. Genc Bakunin icin, "Ask, insanin yeryuzundeki en ust misyonuydu. Bir insanin kendini asksiz vermesi, Kutsal Ruh'a karsi islenmis bir gunahti.." Kadinlar tarafindan oldukca cekici bulunan Mihail'in ise kadinlarla iliskisi hep ruhsal bir ask olarak kaldi. Isvicre'nin muhtesem manzarasi esliginde George Sand romanlari okuyan Bakunin, Fransiz dusuncesinin Alman dusuncesinden ustun oldugu inancini saglamlastiriyordu. Bakunin, Marx icin, "O, beni duygusal idealist olarak adlandiriyordu; hakliydi. Ben de onu, hoyrat, kendini begenmis ve acimasiz olarak degerlendiriyordum; ben de hakliydim" diyordu.. Kendisine iliskin konularda kindar olmayan Bakunin, Herzen'in karisina gosterdigi soguklugu hayatinin sonuna kadar unutamadi. "Artik reaksiyonun muzaffer guclerine karsi Sisifos'un tasini yuvarlamak icin ne gerekli guce ne de guvene sahibim. Ne var ki, doneminde -Marx'in digerleriyle arasindaki- bu savas bir olum kalim meselesiydi ve Marksizm muhtemel kapitalizm karsiti olarak ve yani sira anarsizm karsiti olarak tanimlaniyordu. Aslinda, Marx'in yazarligi anarsizme yonelik saldirilari acisindan handiyse gulunc bir genislige ulasmistir. Marx'in Alman Ideolojisi kitabinin buyuk bolumu -yuzlerce sayfasi- bireyci/anarsist Max Stirner'e yonelik bir saldiridan ibarettir. Felsefenin Sefaleti Proudhon'a karsi buyukce bir fikir savasidir.
