About the Book

THE CHARACTER TO LEAD (A Course to Develop Strong Christian Leadership) has many keys that shall serve as the foundational structure to help the Body of Christ collectively to disciple future leaders. Too often, men and women have been labeled to fulfill a particular office (from prophet to usher) without the slightest inclination as to the dynamics of being a leader. Many times, people will be asked to learn the "ins" and "outs" of a specific office. This step should not be neglected; however, these individuals may not have undergone scrutiny as to whether or not they have the character base to mold an effective leader. One pertinent key to successful leadership in a local assembly will arise with the recognition of those brothers or sisters who possess the character to accept multiple levels of responsibility. These individuals will stand out as brothers and sisters that an additional responsibility can be supported by their character expansion. In other words, they will not murmur, grumble, or complain by being asked to do more. In addition, they will not crack under the pressure of an additional workload. These individuals will seem to gravitate to the area were additional assignments await them. This consistent move toward the great frequency of action can be indicative of "the call" upon their lives. Before any attempt should be made to develop "the call," the underlying elements that will support "the call" should be profoundly established. There must be evidence of solid character basis present before leadership potential can be properly explored. This character basis must be in tune with the future requirement of the skill set and the acquisition of unexplored tools to build a foundation for leadership. Because will be expected to resolve the unexpected, a trust component must be prevalent. True leaders will have to trust others. This will become an essential element to build a foundation for leadership. This core value must commence with firmness in the elementary supports and emerge into a mature and stable personality. A leader should have a desire to learn as well as to teach. In fact, it should be stated that a leader must consistently learn in order to effectively teach.
