About the Book

Children shouldn't have to live in pain. This is the first book in the "Childhood Pain Stops Here" series, a series of books designed to give children with chronic medical conditions hope and encouragement. In this first book, a boy named Griffin takes readers on a journey of fear and strength. Griffin is a true hero who overcomes his fear of shots and learns to be brave. Although he is very scared to get a shot, he understands that the shot will help him to feel better so that he can get back to being a kid and doing the things he loves.
About the Author: Dr. Robert M. Lowe is the Founder and Medical Director of the Juvenile Arthritis & Rheumatology Care & Research Center (Kids Arthritis Care, www.kidsarthritiscare.com), the only dedicated pediatric rheumatology clinic in the state of Nevada. Dr. Lowe is also on the Board of Directors for the Rheumatology Association of Nevada. He is a clinical assistant professor at the UNLV School of Medicine, and is the only board-certified pediatric rheumatologist permanently based in the State of Nevada. He previously served as the head pediatric rheumatologist at Children's Specialty Center of Nevada for several months, before deciding to open his own clinic focused solely on providing the best medical care in the country for children with autoimmune conditions. Prior to coming to Las Vegas, Dr. Lowe served for five years on the faculty of the University of Alabama in Birmingham and Children's of Alabama, in the division of Pediatric Rheumatology where he split his time between caring for kids with rheumatology (autoimmune) conditions and performing basic and translational research to improve our understanding of childhood lupus and Sjogren's syndrome. Dr. Lowe spent several years in Washington State, where he received his medical degree and Doctor of Philosophy degree (Ph.D.) in Molecular and Cellular Biology, with a concentration in autoimmune disease, from the University of Washington. Gina Lowe has dedicated her career to serving the needs of children. She is a practicing member of the Nevada State Bar and advocates for children with special needs. Prior to focusing her career exclusively on assisting the needs of children, she obtained a B.S. degree in Biology from the University of Portland in Portland, Oregon. She later earned a Ph.D. degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology. She holds a law degree from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington.
