About the Book

This is a story about three young girls Drea, Avery and Zoe, aged nine years old who have been friends since they were five. The three girls life having thrown them in the same neighborhood and school at the same time. Being the new girls at school and in the same class, they became good friends, and best of friends in no time at all. Ever since they became friends, they have occasional sleepovers at one another's house, rotating it until they come a full circle, and start again. As a result, their parents became friends too. On one of their sleepovers at Drea's house, the girls play dress up, making their theme that of a wedding. Quite dreamily, the way only little girls with no experience of the world can, they talk all about the wedding they hope to have, and all they need to have the perfect wedding. Of course, their wealth of knowledge comes from all the fairy tale movies they watch, and the fairy tale stories they read in story books and the ones their parents read to them for bed time stories. As far as their innocent minds can understand, a handsome prince charming, pretty flowers, an equally pretty dress and a big cake are all it takes to have a perfect marriage. For Drea, the most outspoken one in the group, it is not a wedding yet if she doesn't have flowers on her head. For a nine-year-old, she is bold and very expressive about her opinions. She also has a crush on a boy in class, and hopes he invites them to his birthday. Like her friends, she flutters about, dreaming of the ideal wedding. Zoe is the hopeless romantic of the trio, with dreams of marrying the handsome prince from snow white. She has seen more fairy tale movies, and read their books as well that the both of her friends combined. All Avery needs is a cake big enough for her to eat on her wedding day. As long as there is cake, the wedding is perfect enough for her. Mrs. Annie, Drea's mother, who is also the graceful host of their sleepover decided to give the girls a lesson or two on marriages in real life, and how things work. The girls love coming over to her place because she's an excellent cook, so it was no surprise that she was baking them a cake. To teach them a lesson, and at their insistence, she allowed them take charge of baking the cake. She watched with a contented look as they made a huge mess of the process, after they were so certain that they knew the hang of it, just like they claimed to do for weddings too. She eventually stopped them, and while they were shuffling their feet in embarrassment, she explained to them that marriages, just like baking requires more than having the right ingredients at hand. She made it known to the girls that they had to know what they were doing, and how to do it, not just throwing things in just because you have them at hand, or you feel like they should be in. She made it known to them that it requires a major effort to make things turn out smoothly, like a well baked cake in marriage. Since that day, their fairy tale notion of weddings simmered down.
