Excerpt: Thomas Steen (born June 8, 1960) is a retired professional ice hockey player and current city councillor for the Winnipeg ward of Elmwood-East Kildonan. Steen was born in Grums, Sweden, and began his career with Grums IK (1975-76). He later played for the elite Leksands IF (1976-80) and Farjestads BK (1980-81). Swedish coach Tommy Sandlin described him as "a particularly intelligent and competent player."
