Despite the influence of African American music and study as a worldwide phenomenon, no comprehensive and fully annotated reference tool currently exists that covers the wide range of genres. This much needed bibliography fills an important gap in this research area and will prove an indispensable resource for librarians and scholars studying African American music and culture.
About the Author: Eddie S. Meadows is Professor Emeritus of Ethnomusicology and Jazz Studies and former Graduate Advisor of the School of Music and Dance at San Diego State University (SDSU). He is the author of Jazz Scholarship and Pedagogy: A Research and Information Guide (Routledge), Bebop to Cool: Context, Ideology, and Musical Identity (Praeger Publishers), and co-editor of California Soul: Music of African Americans in the West (University of California Press).
