Diplomarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich BWL - Unternehmensführung, Management, Organisation, Note: 1,3, Bayerische Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Im Jahr 1984 veröffentlichten Hambrick und Mason ihre sog. "Upper Echelons Theorie", die anhand theoretischer Überlegungen die Eigenschaften von Top-Managern mit den Strategien und dem Erfolg von Unternehmen in Zusammenhang bringt und somit die wichtige Bedeutung charakteristischer Merkmale von Top-Managern verdeutlicht. Diese Theorie gab Anlass zu zahlreichen Studien, in denen der Zusammenhang zwischen Merkmalen des Top-Management-Teams (TMT) und dem Unternehmenserfolg empirisch untersucht wird. Insbesondere die Auswirkungen von TMT-Heterogenität fanden große Beachtung und wurden zu einem viel erforschten und diskutierten Thema. Allerdings beziehen sich diese Studien größtenteils auf amerikanische Unternehmen und kommen zu sehr vielfältigen und oft widersprüchlichen Ergebnissen. So ist es das Ziel dieser Arbeit anhand von 48 deutschen Unternehmen zu untersuchen, inwiefern eine Heterogenität der Vorstandsmitglieder, insbesondere hinsichtlich Alter, Betriebszugehörigkeitsdauer (BZD), Bildung und Fachrichtung, Einfluss auf den Unternehmenserfolg hat. Bevor die Zusammenhänge zwischen Heterogenität und Unternehmenserfolg empirisch untersucht werden können, müssen zunächst die zentralen Begriffe definiert und erklärt, sowie Theorien zu diesem Thema dargelegt werden. Deshalb werden in Kapitel 2 die Begriffe Vorstand, Heterogenität und Unternehmenserfolg erläutert und in Kapitel 3 verschiedene Theorien über den Zusammenhang von Heterogenität und Teamleistung dargestellt. Anschließend wird in Kapitel 4 auf die Vorgehensweisen sowie die Ergebnisse früherer empirischer Studien, die den Einfluss von TMT-Heterogenität auf den Unternehmenserfolg untersuchten, eingegangen. In Kapitel 5 folgt schließlich die empirische Untersuchung der Zusammenhänge zwischen Vorstandsheterogenität und Unternehm
