About the Book

-Introduction: Living on plantations and slaving for White people was all they ever known. Jake was a hardworking man with a small amount of downtime; he wanted to make a better living but he only knew how to depend on White plantation owners. Exie was a strong-minded woman who wasn't too good at following orders; she had a dark hatred for Whites and wasn't afraid to speak her mind. Dolly Dimple was the only girl, and the youngest of her four brothers; she had plenty to learn about life and the responsibilities that come with it. -Volume.1 In 1930, Exie gave birth to a stillborn baby, and being mentally strong was her only hope. Exie found ways to cope with her lost, which included humorous but reckless behavior. Jake couldn't help but to think that he was the cause of their misfortune. Nevertheless, as years passed the Man Above blessed them with five healthy children. However, the end of their misfortune hadn't yet ended. When plantation owner Moor Jones refused to pay Jake and took food from Exie's garden, they had to find a way to feed their family of seven. -Volume.2 After nearly killing plantation owner Moor Jones, Exie served 10 days in jail, which caused her family to lose everything they ever worked for. While Exie was away, her husband, Jake, became a victim of emotional outrage and her daughter, Dolly Dimple, fell victim to verbal and physical abuse. Moreover, her son Sambo had found something to hold onto wholeheartedly.
