Cinquante années après la signature des Traités de Rome, il est désormais possible d'analyser sous une perspective historique les débuts de la politique de coopération européenne, consacrée par la Convention de Yaoundé. Cet ouvrage, fondé sur la consultation de plusieurs centres d'archives, souligne la valeur stratégique, pour les équilibres de la guerre froide en Afrique, de la politique d'aide française et européenne.
L'étude de l'évolution des relations franco-africaines entre 1957 et 1963 illustre bien la complexité des liens entre l'Afrique, l'Europe et le système international d'une part, et l'interdépendance des aspects politiques et économiques des relations eurafricaines d'autre part. En ce qui concerne la France, l'influence des pays africains sur ses prises de position en matière de politique étrangère et de politique européenne est particulièrement évidente durant cette période. Sur le plan international, la question du type d'aide à accorder aux pays en voie de développement interpelle tous les États industrialisés, membres du monde communiste ou occidental. Pour Moscou et Washington l'enjeu est l'appui du tiers-monde, une région qui compte plus de la moitié de la population mondiale, dans la lutte de l'un contre l'autre. Pour la France de De Gaulle, le soutien du tiers-monde doit servir sa politique d'influence, à la recherche d'un équilibre mondial en dehors des deux blocs.
About the Author: L'auteur: Guia Migani est chercheuse associée au Département d'études internationales de l'Université de Padoue. Elle est aussi maître de conférences à l'Institut d'études politiques de Paris dans le cadre du Master recherche en relations internationales. Docteur en histoire de l'Université de Florence et de l'IEP de Paris, elle a rédigé une thèse sur la France et l'Afrique sub-saharienne entre 1957 et 1963, dont cet ouvrage s'inspire. Ses articles portent sur les relations eurafricaines, la décolonisation française en Afrique sub-saharienne, la politique européenne de coopération et la guerre froide.
