About the Book

This book is written in the style of a commentary and covers the whole of the book of Revelation. It starts from chapter one verse one and goes through the book a few verses at a time. The author has largely drawn upon his personal study notes, made over a period of some twenty years. There is also a wealth of comment on various other interesting passages of Scripture, such as the controversial passage in Genesis chapter six where 'the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose'. His comments on this passage are as literalistic as his comments on Revelation itself. Other interesting problems are also dealt with, such as why the tribe of Dan is not listed among the 144,000. Old Testament passages are cross-referenced and used to tease out the meaning of obscure parts of Revelation. Many other books have been written about Revelation, and there is a surprising diversity of opinion. This author takes the pre-millennial view that Christ's church will be taken to be with their Lord before the terrible Revelation judgements are unleashed upon the world, and that the events that John saw are literal (mainly future) history, though of course, there is plenty of symbolism used, and plenty that is relevant to our situation today, both in the world and in the church. Certain themes, such as the way of Salvation, are enlarged upon for the benefit of any non-Christians who may read the book. This book is an exposition for scholars, a reading book for those who want an overall impression of Revelation, and also provides guidance and challenge to those who may be seeking the Way of Salvation. The whole of the book of Revelation is dealt with, but there is particular emphasis on: the letters to the seven churches and their relevance to the church today; what happens when we die; Israel's 'time of Jacob's trouble'; the fascinating (if that is not too nice a word to use) character of the beast and his origin; God's spectacular and awesome judgements upon the earth and its ungodly inhabitants; and the home that the Lord has prepared for those who belong to Him.
