Alan PerryAlan R. Perry is Professor of Italian at Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. His scholarly interests focus upon Italy in World War II, the dopoguerra, and the Cold War. He has investigated the way Italians memorialized fallen partians (Il santo partigiano martire: La retorica del sacrificio nelle biografie commemorative, 2001) and has studied the folklore mystery of Pippoāan aircraft that terrorized the Italian populace in Northern Italy during the war. He has published extensively on Giovannino Guareschi, author of the Don Camillo tales, with Don Camillo Stories of Giovannino Guareschi: A Humorist Portrays the Sacred. He has written three co-authored book-length studies on the Italian POW experience in Pennsylvania from 1944 to 1945, including Italian Prisoners of War in Pennsylvania: Allies on the Home Front, 1944ā45 (2016) and World War II Italian Prisoners of War in Chambersburg (2017).
