Alan W HarrisAlan Harris is a practicing veterinarian living near Columbia, South Carolina, where he and Valerie, his wife for over forty years, make their home. They have six children whom they have homeschooled for twenty-seven years, a host of beautiful grandcildren whom they adore...and a pug. The idea for the initial Tales of Larkin book came to Alan the summer before his junior year of veterinary medical school. He was hiking through the woods when he found a creek with a small, three-step waterfall. A tiny opening in the rock near this spot got him thinking about what it would be like to be one inch tall and trying to survive in the woods. As he imagined himself to be a tiny hunter confronting lizards, spiders, and snakes, a story began to come together. Years later, when he read a few chapters to his children, their excitement and enthusiastic question, What happens next, Dad? motivated Alan to continue writing. When Alan discovered his children's eagerness to hear more, he saw the opportunity to use it to teach them important lessons about God, the Lord Jesus, and godly character by weaving these lessons subtly, and sometimes not so subtly, into the plot. Now that some of Alan and Valerie's children are grown, the Tales of Larkin are being used to teach those same lessons to their grandchildren. It is Alan's hope that the Tales of Larkin will not only be exciting adventures that delight readers, but that they will also draw those who read or listen to the stories closer to God and His Son King Jesus, inspire them to pray bold prayers, and in faith to do great exploits for God.
