Twice nominated for an Academy Award, he collaborated on films directed by Fellini, De Sica (The Bicycle Thief), Rossellini (Paisan) Zinnemann, and Fritz Lang (Clash By Night). His novels include In Love and My Face for the World to See. Of the many poems and song lyrics he wrote, the union ballad “Joe Hill,” popularized by Joan Baez, is the best known. He died in 1985.
