Alfred Lansing

Alfred Lansing estuvo en la Marina de los Estados Unidos en su juventud, y fue distinguido con el Corazón Púrpura. Terminada la Segunda Guerra Mundial, regresó en 1946 a la Universidad de Northwesern para estudiar Periodismo. Fue editor de un periódico semanal en Illinois y después trabajó como escritor independiente para United Press y la revista Collier's. También fue editor de Time Inc. En 1959 publicó Endurance. La increíble travesía de Shackleton. El libro se convirtió en bestseller del New York Times en su edición de los ochenta, con más de un millón de ejemplares vendidos y traducciones al italiano, español, portugués, alemán, noruego, finés, hebreo... Desafortunadamente el autor no pudo gozar del éxito de su obra, pues su muerte ocurrió pocos años antes, en 1975.

Alfred Lansing served in the United States Navy in his youth and was awarded the Purple Heart. After World War II, he returned in 1946 to Northwestern University to study Journalism. He was editor of a weekly newspaper in Illinois and later worked as a freelance writer for United Press and Collier's magazine. He also served as an editor at Time Inc. In 1959 he published Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage. The book became a New York Times bestseller in its 1980s edition, selling over one million copies and translated into Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Norwegian, Finnish, Hebrew, and more. Unfortunately, the author did not live to enjoy the success of his work, as he passed away in 1975.
