Allyson WingstonAllyson Wingston was born and raised in the South Bronx section of New York City for the first 15 years of her life. During that time, she was educated at Winifred Wheeler Nursery School, P.S. 154, I.S. 183, and Morris Annex H.S. Allyson had the goodfortune of having many teachers who inspired her to become a teacher. She entered the field of teaching in the fall after graduating from Hampton University. Two years later, she received her Master's Degree in education from Queens College. Several years later, she attained a Specialist Degree from Emory University. Allyson became a career teacher who has taught on every level of public school education. She was inspired to write Going Down South while teaching one of her 4th grade reading classes at East Clayton Elementary School.
