As a Miami native, he was exposed to a large array of foods since childhood, e.g., collard greens, johnny cakes, curry goat, and croissants. A curious child, he aways asked questions about the meals and where they came from; to which he often received replies like Africa, India, Europe or The Islands, a euphemism for the Caribbean. This curiosity for learning the origin of food never waned. On the contrary, it was only exacerbated in his formative years because he traveled to the Caribbean often to vacation and visit family. These travels exposed him to more food and generated more questions. Despite taking off time to pursue degrees in engineering and computer science, he never lost his interest in food and cooking. His fascination with food history was heightened further during his adult years, when he expanded his palette by traveling to Central and South America. Around this time he also began visiting Canada. Each origin story is a sort of mystery, and each mystery solved is a breadcrumb that leads the author to new cultures, new techniques, and a new memorable experience. These events are what led the author to cooking gourmet foods from around the globe.
