Amor LaaribiAmor Laaribi has a PhD in geomatics sciences and over 30 years of experience in geospatial information for decision-making and development. He joined the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) in 2000 to define and plan the prioriies of the division in geospatial information and to promote its use with census mapping in developing countries. He contributed to the foundation of the UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) and acted as secretary of the UN Expert Group on the Integration of Statistical and Geospatial Information (UN-EG-ISGI) since its inception. He also acted as the secretary of UN Regional Cartographic Conferences and the UN Group of Experts on Geographical Names (UNGEGN). Prior to the UN, he worked for 10 years as a senior engineer in applied numerical analysis, conducted a 4-year pioneering PhD research on GIS and multi-criteria analysis for Spatial Decision Support Systems, and acted for five years as Advisor to the Tunisian Minister of Economic Development for their national geospatial information strategy (GEONAT).
