Andrea Schlegel

Dr. Andrea Schlegel is an academic transplant staff surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic specialized in abdominal transplantation with her own research group. Her treatment philosophy is based on a patient-centric and shared-decision making while incororating the most recent innovative technologies as she helps patients through their liver transplant journey. Her research interests include experimental and clinical research with a focus on machine perfusion to improve the safe utilization of organs. Dr. Schlegel is an international expert in the field with over 150 publications in high-impact journals on a broad range of topics including underlying mechanisms of machine perfusion and ischemia - reperfusion injury and the development of new biomarkers to predict organ viability. Dr. Schlegel is an associated Editor and Reviewer in over 20 leading journals in the field and delivers over 30 invited lectures per year worldwide.
