Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was an iconic American artist who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. He had a successful career as a commercial illustrator, after which he became a renowned and sometimes controversialartist. His works explored the relationship between artistic expression, the culture of celebrity, and the pervasive influence of advertisements that proliferated through the 1960s. Warhol's works include some of the most expensive paintings ever sold. He was also an author, a music promoter, and a producer and director of innovative films.
