Augustine of Hippo
St. Augustine of Hippo (354-430) was a theologian, philosopher, and the bishop of Hippo Regius (in what is now Algeria) in North Africa. A convert to Catholicism, Augustine is one of the original four Doctors of the Church and helped lay th foundation of modern Christianity with his writings, which include Confessions, The City of God, and On Christian Doctrine.
