Balazs Schanda

Balazs SchandaDr Balázs Schanda (born 18 August 1968) studied law at ELTE University, Budapest (1987-1993) and canon law at Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Budapest (1995-1999). In 2003, ELTE University granted him a doctoral decree for a thesis on the instittional aspects of religious freedom. In 2004, he was appointed associate professor at the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at Pázmány Péter Catholic University; in 2012, he became a professor; in 2006, he became the head of the Department of Constitutional Law. From 2007 to 2013, he served as the Dean of the Faculty. He teaches courses in Hungarian and comparative constitutional law, ecclesiastical law, and human rights law. Prof. Schanda is a member of the European Consortium for Church-State Research, the International Consortium for Law and Religion Studies, the advisory board of the Association of Hungarian Constitutional Lawyers, and the Head of the ecclesiastical law section of the Hungarian Lawyers Association. He is a member of the Expert Committee on Social Sciences of the Hungarian Accreditation Committee. He has participated in several international research projects and conferences and is the author of numerous publications, mainly in the fields of ecclesiastical law, religious freedom, and constitutional law.
