Beth Winkler TysonBeth Winkler Tyson is a psychotherapist, children's author, and mom to a preschooler. As a master's graduate in Counseling Psychology, Beth draws on her experience as a psychotherapist to write books that help children cope with their emotions. Her tnder-hearted first children's book, A Grandfamily for Sullivan, is about a young koala who goes to live with his grandma when his parents are unable to keep him safe. It is a useful tool for kinship families and professionals supporting children impacted by family separation. Beth was inspired to write Sullivan's story while working as therapist with foster and adoptive families in the child welfare system. She needed a book to talk with children about kinship care and the options were extremely limited. She decided to create her own story, based off of her experiences with grandfamilies. Beth published this book independently, without the backing of any organizations, and is an example of her dedication to building awareness and support for kinship families. As a mom to a young child, Beth values the role children's books play in teaching complicated concepts to children. She believes the message within her book will help children separated from their biological parents feel acknowledged and empowered to move forward, and also understand the changes happening in their life at an age-appropriate level. Beth volunteers as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in Delaware County, PA, and represents the best interest of two young children in the foster care system. She meets with them regularly to assess their well-being and advocate for their needs. Beth is a Teaching Assistant at the graduate level in the Counseling Psychology Department at Eastern University. She is also a work-from-home-mom to a spirited girl who always has a song to sing, and a mountain to climb! Read More Read Less
