Birgitta TrotzigBirgitta Trotzig (1929-2011) was born in Gothenburg. She studied literary history before marrying artist and sculptor Ulf Trotzig in 1949,living within the vibrant community of the Valand School of Fine Arts. After moving to Italy then France, she coverted to Catholicism and became immersed in European modernism as well as the resistance movement against the Algerian War.On returning to Sweden in 1969, she had three children, with a fourth born later. One of Scandinavia's most celebrated authors of fiction,prose poetry and cultural criticism, Trotzig's debut novel was published when she was twenty-one - and her award-winning writing continued to explore religion, politics and existentialism, always giving a voice to the vulnerable.
