Bonga Chiliza

Dr. Bonga Chiliza is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. He is the Deputy Editor of the South African Journal of Psychiatry and one of the Founding Diretors of the Africa Global Mental Health Institute. He completed his medical degree and psychiatry specialization at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and his PhD at Stellenbosch University. His research interests include first-episode psychosis, schizophrenia, psych epidemiology and health services research and medical education. Prof Chiliza has received several awards from South African institutions and research grants from international funding agencies. He has published more than 120 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He has also led a number of not-for-profit boards, including the South African YMCA, the South African Society of Psychiatrists, and Harambee Medical Consulting.
