BRUCE STRONACH is Dean, Graduate School of International Relations, International University of Japan in Niigata. His primary areas of interest include Japanese political culture and popular culture with an eye to the Japanese-American relationshi. His recent books include Politics East and West: A Comparison of Japanese and British Culture (1992) with Curtis Martin, and Japan and America: Opposites That Attract (1989).
