Carmen TiburcioCarmen Tiburcio was born in 1958 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Attended the Law School of the State University of Rio de Janeiro from where she earned a Law Degree in 1981. Soon after graduation, commenced lecturing Private International Law at te same school, where she remains until now. In 1987, she earned her LLM from the University of Virginia School of Law and in 1998, the SJD (Doctoral) from the same Law School. In 2016, she obtained full Professorship from the State University of Rio de Janeiro. Published books in Brazil and abroad. Together with Jacob Dolinger published Vademecum of Private International Law (collection of laws and conventions) and International Commercial Arbitration. Published also Themes of International Law as well as International Constitutional Law (co-authorship with Luis Roberto Barroso, law professor and justice of the Brazilian Supreme Court) and, with the same author, edited a book Contemporary International Law. Also edited, in conjunction with Raphael Vasconcelos and Wagner Menezes, Panorama of Present Private International Law and other Contemporary Themes. Published a book on the Hague Convention of Child Abduction (co-authorship with Guilherme Calmon, law professor and judge at the Federal Court) and published abroad The Human Rights of Aliens under International and Comparative Law, by Kluwer Law International. Published a book on Jurisdiction of Brazilian Courts and Sovereign Immunity. Published numerous law articles in Brazil and abroad on Private International Law, including International Litigation and Arbitration. She was invited to give a course on International Litigation and Arbitration at the Universidade Agustinho Neto, at Luanda, Angola and, on several occasions, has been a guest lecturer at the University of Toulouse, France. Participated in a Commission nominated by the Ministry of Justice responsible for the drafting of the Bill of International Juridical Cooperation (not in force), in relation to International Litigation. Presently lectures at the State University of Rio de Janeiro, both at the graduate and post graduate courses. Invited to deliver a course at The Hague Academy of Private International Law in 2017 on International Litigation. A member of the Brazilian Bar and lawyer in Brazil in the areas of her expertise (private international law, international litigation and arbitration), acting as both a consultant, practising attorney and drafting legal opinions. A member of the Tribunal of Mercosur and of Mercosur-Bolivia list of arbitrators nominated by the Brazilian government. Acted in numerous domestic and international arbitrations as attorney, consultant, expert witness and arbitrator. Felipe Albuquerque collaborated in the research for the preparation of this book. Felipe attended the Law School of the State University of Rio de Janeiro from where he also received his LLM in 2016.
