Cevat Çapan

Cevat Çapan was born in Istanbul in 1933. He studied at Robert College from 1945-1953, read English at Peterhouse, Cambridge, from 1953 to 1956, taught English Literature and Drama at the University of Istanbul from 1960 to 1980, and worked as Proessor of Drama in Mimar Sinan University from 1980 to 1996. He is currently Professor of English at the Yeditepe University in Istanbul.

His first book of poems Dön Gövercin Dön (Return, Dove, Return) was awarded the Behçet Necatigil Prize in 1986. His later poems were collected in two other volumes Doğal Tarih (1989) and Sevda Yaratan (1994). He has also published critical studies of Irish playwrights, including John Whiting, as well as translations of their plays.
