A leading figure in Protestantism in his time, he emphasized inner spirituality, moral integrity, and human brotherhood, influencing religious and ethical thought across Europe and the United States. He co-founded the "Union pour l'action morale" and the "Assembly of Jarnac," promoting unity among diverse faiths and social reform.
