He is an honors graduate of both the University of Southern California and Boston College Law School who spent twenty-five years as a trial lawyer in Los Angeles. He has been a finalist for many of the tp awards in crime fiction including the Lefty, Shamus, Macavity, and Audie Awards, the New Mexico-Arizona, Oklahoma, and Colorado Book Awards, and the Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction.
