Clayton RandClayton Randís story is also part of the American saga. Raised in a sawmill town in the backwoods of Mississippi, he worked his way through Mississippi State College by selling peanuts to the students and through Harvard Law School by peddling kitche utensils to New England housewives. In 1919 Mr. Rand bought his first country newspaper, the Neshoba Democrat , after 3 years judged the best weekly in Mississippi. Later he was the owner-editor of the Dixie Press in Gulfport, Mississippi. He had also achieved distinction as a national columnist and an accomplished after-dinner speaker.
