Daniel Baird

Dan Baird is a Senior Professor and Research Fellow in the Department of Botany and Zoology at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. He obtained his PhD degree from the University of Stellenbosch in fisheries science, and has published mor than 120 papers and numerous book chapters. He was co-editor and author for of volume on the “Estuaries of South Africa” (1999; Cambridge University Press), co-editor and author of “Estuarine and Coastal Ecosystems Modeling” in the 1^st Edition of “Treatise on Estuarine and Coastal Science” (2011; Elsevier). He is currently Editor-in-Chief of the highly rated journal Estuarine Coastal and Shelf Science (Elsevier) and the co-Editor-in-Chief of the 2^nd Edition of Treatise on Coastal Science (2024; Elsevier). Professor Baird conducted research and published widely with international fellows from, amongst others, the University of Maryland, East Carolina University, University of North Carolina, the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research, Germany, the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, and Durham, UK. Professor Baird specializes in the fields of ecosystem theory, analysis and modeling, Ecological Network Analysis, marine & coastal zone ecology & management, fisheries science & fisheries management, water quality of and nutrient dynamics in coastal ecosystems.
