She attended Radford University, Radford, Virginia, for the first three semesters and then transferred to East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, Tennessee. At ETSU Daphne earned a bachelor's degree in English, focusing on technical writing and research, and she minored in history, focusing her efforts on the socioeconomic effects of peoples, both soldiers and non-soldiers, during wartime and the years after.
