Darren LehaneDarren Lehane BCL, LLM, BL was the principal legal researcher on the Law Reform Commission Consultation Paper and Report on Public Inquiries Including Tribunals of Inquiry. As a result of this experience, he was appointed Junior Counsel to a bespokepublic inquiry, the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse in 2004. In that role, he drafted what became the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse (Amendment) Act 2005. He appeared in Lawlor v Mahon [2010] 1 IR 170 which is the leading case on the standard of proof applicable to tribunals of inquiry. He also appeared in Richardson v Mahon [2013] IEHC 118 which involved a challenge to the findings of the Mahon Tribunal.Darren has represented one of the main parties before the Moriarty Tribunal since 2008 and have appeared in a number of challenges to that tribunal, including O'Brien v Moriarty [2010] 4 IR 761 and O'Brien v Moriarty [2011] IEHC 30. He also represented one of the main parties before the Smithwick Tribunal of Inquiry and is currently involved in a challenge to the findings of that tribunal, Corrigan v Smithwick.He is a regular commentator in the broadcast and print media on matters relating to public inquiries and he ran in the local council elections in May 2014.
