Davis Matthew LAmerican lawyer, politician, and soldier Aaron Burr was born in 1756 and died in 1836. From 1801 until 1805, he was President Thomas Jefferson's third vice president of the United States. Burr was a divisive figure in his day, noted for his politicalaspirations and his part in the historic duel that killed Alexander Hamilton in 1804. Burr received his education at the College of New Jersey, which is now Princeton University, and was born in Newark, New Jersey. He participated in the American Revolution as a soldier and subsequently achieved prominence as a lawyer in New York City. He was chosen to serve in the Senate of the United States in 1791 and did so until 1797. Burr served as Thomas Jefferson's running partner in the 1800 presidential contest, and when the Democratic-Republican ticket won, he was elected Vice President. Burr spent his whole life engaged in both political and financial endeavors, including an unsuccessful expedition to Mexico in the years 1805-1807. He traveled for many years in Europe after his acquittal before coming back to New York City, where he spent the rest of his life. Read More Read Less
