Dawn DowdingDawn Dowding is Professor in Clinical Decision Making, Division of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work, School of Health Sciences, University of Manchester, UK. Prior to this role she was Professor of Nursing at Columbia University School of Nursing ad the Visiting Nurse Service of New York, where she co-ordinated the Evidence Based Practice module for the nursing curriculum. She is an elected Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM) and the American Academy of Nursing, and was a tutor on the "Teaching Evidence Assimilation for Collaborative Healthcare" (TEACH) program at the NYAM. She is a health services researcher, nurse and psychologist with expertise in the field of health care decision-making and nursing informatics. From 2009-2010 she was a Harkness Fellow in Health Care Policy and Practice, working at Kaiser Permanente, Oakland CA. Additional past appointments include Professor of Applied Health Research, University of Leeds UK and Senior Lecturer in Clinical Decision Making, Hull York Medical School, UK.
She is a member of the editorial board for Worldviews on Evidence-Based Nursing, has published over 90 articles in peer-reviewed journals and co-authored/co-edited two books on decision making in nursing.
She completed her registered nurse training at St Bartholomew's College of Nursing and Midwifery, London, has a BSc(Hons) in Psychology with Nursing Studies from City University, London and a PhD in Psychology and Nursing from the University of Surrey, UK.
