Dayton E WhitesIn 1943, Dayton Whites was eight years old when he and his mother and his sister became a part of "The Best Little Town," Lucedale, Mississippi. His childhood was filled with Lucedale and its wonderful people. After receiving a B.S. degree from Millsps College, Dayton Whites went on to earn his M.D. from the University of Mississippi in 1960. Dr. Whites returned to his hometown of Lucedale as a family physician in 1961, where he would continue to practice medicine for 40 years. After retiring from medicine, Dr. Whites served as the mayor of Lucedale for eight years.
