Dimitra SmithDimitra J. Smith is a Professor and former Department Head in the Department of Higher Education and Learning Technologies at East Texas A&M University. A highly regarded scholar and sought-after speaker, Dr. Smith brings extensive expertise in leadeship, career fulfillment, and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education and preparation. She has presented at numerous regional, national, and international conferences, sharing her insights on these critical areas. As Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Smith recently secured a $500,000 USDA grant to explore the experiences of underrepresented beginning farmers and address food insecurities among college students. In addition to her research, she has published widely in leading peer-reviewed journals and has edited and co-edited several influential educational books. Notable co-edited volumes include The Future of Black Leadership in Higher Education: Firsthand Experiences and Global Impact (2022), Changing the Stigma of Mental Health Among African Americans: Moving from Denial to Acceptance (2023), Community Colleges and Workforce Preparation in the 21st Century: Emerging Research and Opportunities (2021), Preparing a STEM Workforce through Career-Technical Education (2017), and Examining the Impact of Community Colleges on the Global Workforce (2015). Her latest co-edited book, Hispanic Leadership in Higher Education, is slated for release in Fall 2024. In addition to her academic work, Dr. Smith is a passionate children's book author, with several titles aimed at introducing young readers to STEAM-related careers and opportunities.
