Desde 1978 es el encargado de las excavaciones en el Templo Mayor, Axis mundi de la ciudad de Tenochtitlán, antigua capital del imperio mxica. Realizó estudios en arqueología en la Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia de la Ciudad de México y obtuvo una maestría en Ciencias Antropológicas con especialidad en Arqueología por la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
