Elizabeth Shay CarterElizabeth Shay Carter was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, but spent mostof her life in North Mississippi. She received a B.S. in Biological Sciences with aminor in Chemistry from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee.She then went on t study cell and molecular biology at the University of Tennessee and worked in cancer research, where she studied novel chemotherapeutics.Shay received an MCLS (Masters of Chemical and Life Sciences) focusing onorganic chemistry from the University of Maryland. For many years, she workedas an analyst in the environmental testing of soil and water for various organiccontaminants such as pesticides and herbicides. After that, she began teaching science at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia, Mississippi, whereshe served as Physical Science Chair and is still an instructor.
