Erma Mae PeirsonErma Peirson's lifelong interest in historical matters is reflected here, as it was in her earlier books, Kern's Desert (1956) and The Mojave River and Its Valley (1970). Following a decade of teaching, Mrs. Peirson turned to journalism and public reations work, becoming the editor of the weekly paper Rocketeer (1945-1950) of the China Lake Naval Weapons Center and later the editor of the Apply Valley Bonanza (1965-1967). Her experience has also been noted in her editorial work and historical feature writing for the newspapers of Apple Valley, Hesperia, Victorville, Barstow, Ridgecrest, and Fresno. She was a member of several historical societies and of the National League of American Pen Women. In 2024, Fresno's Past was published posthumously after originally appearing as a column in the Fresno Guide newspaper from 1963 to 1965; Erma had been cultivating the column into a book at the time of her passing in 1971. In 2025, her grandchildren also published her book From Missouri to the Mojave, including a collection of her life stories that take place in the 1890s to 1940s.Rob Peirson, grandson of Erma Peirson, has overseen the editing and posthumous publication of several of his grandmother's books, including Fresno's Past in 2024, From Missouri to the Mojave in 2025, and The Broken Wheel Mine in 2026.
