Francis D. PaganiBio: Francis D. Pagani, MD PhD is the Otto Gago, MD Endowed Professor of Cardiac Surgery in the Department of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Michigan. Dr. Pagani is currently the Surgical Director for the Michigan Medicine, Frankel Cardiovascuar Center's, Center for Circulatory Support. Dr. Pagani's clinical focus includes surgical therapies for advanced heart failure including heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support as well as complex re-operative valvular surgical, surgery for adult congenital heart disease, and surgery (i.e., surgical myectomy) for inherited cardiomyopathies including hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Dr. Pagani's research interests include translational investigations of stem cells for treatment of advanced heart failure, clinical and translational investigations of mechanical circulatory support devices, health outcomes research, and human factors research in patient safety in the operating room environment. Dr. Pagani now serves as the Chair of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons Intermacs Task Force. Dr. Pagani also serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
