Frank began writing about sports as a high school student in Batavia, NY. He cntinued writing at St. John Fisher College in nearby Pittsford, NY, where he was the sports editor of the college newspaper and an assistant to the sports information director. After earning an M.A. at WVU and Ph.D. at Iowa State, Frank spent nearly forty years as a professor and administrator at Michigan State University.
