He enlisted in the Navy, becoming a Cryptologic Technician with a Top-Secret clearnce. His career in signals intelligence spanned 36 years, including service with the Navy Security Group and the NSA, he retired from the Navy as a CWO4. He assumed a second Civil Service career where he became the Acting Chief of the National Communications Security Monitoring and Analysis Division and was presented with the Meritorious Civilian Service Award by the Director of NSA.
