Geoff Plunkett
Geoff Plunkett is a retired historian and researcher whose work has had direct impact on Australian criminal and military history. He wrote the official histories of Australia’s involvement in chemical weapons, research that led to the discovery o hundreds of live phosgene bombs at the former chemical-warfare headquarters at Marrangaroo, near Sydney.
He is the author of numerous books, including an account of Australia’s deadliest building fire, and now specialises in investigative true crime. His acclaimed book Death Row at Truro was shortlisted for the Ned Kelly Award for true crime, while The Whiskey Au Go Go Massacre contributed to the Queensland State Coroner reopening the investigation into the 1973 arson murders.
In 2025, Plunkett played a direct role in exposing the deception of a mass-killing serial arsonist later revealed to be a sexual predator, contributing to the legal process that returned him to prison. His work has featured across Australia’s major newspapers and on radio and television.
