Gerald GrinnellThe author was reared on a small farm in upstate New York. He obtained B.S. and Ph.D. (in Agricultural Economics) degrees from the University of Kentucky and was an Assistant Professor of Economics at Morehead State University (Morehead, Kentucky) whre he taught Principles of Economics, Labor Economics, International Economics, and Government Regulation of Business. He moved to the D.C. area and worked for two agencies and one staff office in the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In the first, he conducted research on economic and competitive behavior in the food wholesaling and retailing industries. In the second, he conducted public policy analyses and represented the Department in public policy matters relating to energy. In the third, he participated in administering federal regulatory programs relating to economic and competitive behavior of livestock and poultry marketing and meatpacking companies. He also served on a countywide school board, other county-level government-sponsored organizations, and on governing boards of residential and commercial property owners' associations. Several years ago, he began drafting talking points with the intention of volunteering to explain basic economic concepts to students at church. The list of topics grew as he sought to explain the application of economic principles. Thus, began a long journey in pursuit of truths about why things are like they are and what works, what doesn't, and why in matters relating to economics. Some insights were triggered by dictionary definitions and reviewers' comments. Many were triggered by studying biblical principles and considering their economic implications. Many came in the night. He was forced to rethink commonly held views about economics, the role of human characteristics, and the application of economic principles. He thought he was done several times only to receive new insights requiring further analysis and revisions. Events in the world affect our perspective and reveal new insights. Although we aren't meant to see all things, pursuit of truth proved fruitful and revealed the importance of the search itself. We cannot see and understand truths about the ways of the world unless we pursue an understanding of the principles of the Creator of the world. Read More Read Less
