Gianpaolo BaiocchiGianpaolo Baiocchi, Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Pittsburgh, received his PhD in sociology from the University of Wisconsin (2001) where his dissertation examined the PT administration of Porto Alegre. He has published severa articles on local democracy in Brazil. He was a participant in the discussions around the decentralization campaign carried out by the Communist Party of India in Kerala, and is currently part of a comparative research network that is carrying out a research project on local democratic experiments in South Africa, Brazil and India.
