Gloria S WalkerGloria Walker grew up in a very liberal family. In fact, when a friend was pregnant in the 1950's she picked her up after she had a safe abortion by Dr. Ruth Barnett and drove her to her mother's house for recovery. Dr Barnett was a Portland abortionst from the 1930's until 1956, when she was convicted and incarcerated for her 'illegal' practice. In the 1960's and 1970's as a professional counselor, Ms Walker had occasion to work with pregnant girls, within a school system which disallowed any mention of abortion as a choice. In retirement, Ms Walker supported and volunteered with a group called Pathfinders, which provided schooling for pregnant teenagers. She was also an active member of Planned Parenthood.
