H. Oliver GaoH. Oliver Gao is the Howard Simpson Professor of Engineering, and Director of Systems Engineering at Cornell University. He is also Principal Investigator at the Center for Transportation, Environment, and Community Health, a research hub in the US Dpartment of Transportation focused on sustainable mobility and urban resilience. Dr. Gao is internationally recognized for his work on infrastructure systems modeling, transportation and environmental sustainability, and human-centered approaches to urban design. His research integrates civil and environmental engineering, public health, and data science to address challenges at the intersection of mobility, infrastructure, and climate. Dr. Gao holds graduate degrees in civil engineering, statistics, and agricultural and resource economics from the University of California, Davis, and a B.S. and M.S. from Tsinghua University. He previously served as Editor-in-Chief of Transportation Research Part D: Transport and Environment, and has advised major public agencies on transportation policy and air quality planning.
