Houston L CrumplerHouston L. Crumpler Jr. was born in Roseboro, North Carolina, and attended Darlington School for Boys in Rome, Georgia. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA degree in Journalism. He spent summers working at his father's brick and cla pipe manufacturing plant before joining the US Army where he wrote for the Fort Bragg Post newspaper, "The Paraglide." After the army, he returned to the family business briefly and then began building houses. That experience, plus local history and family lore, furnished much of the background for this story.Crumpler eventually re-entered the pipe business as a plastic pipe producer, where he has spent the bulk of his career.
